Companion homestead

Welcome to our page!

Companion Homestead is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization here in Rochester, MN and our mission is to help support shelter dogs to end the cycle of returns.

Our mission to end the cycle of returns involves not only providing support and services to shelter dogs, but to provide an alternative home to those that cannot thrive in a traditional home setting. That is where our Sanctuary comes in! By 2027, we will have a Sanctuary for dogs to call home. The residents of our Sanctuary will be pups that are considered “unadoptable”. They will have a variety of different reasons that they have been deemed this; whether for behavioral reasons, medical reasons, or past histories that prevent them from flourishing in a typical home.

We are unable to take in dogs at this time, please contact your local shelter for assistance.

Social Hour

We officially launched our first program: Social Hour!

This program takes place at Companion Acres & gives an opportunity for long-term Paws & Claws Humane Society pups to have time away from the shelter, while socializing with new people & new pups. When taking a new pup home from the shelter, it can be hard to know certain things, like: how do they do with other pups (big or small), or how do they do in a new environment, or do they have anxieties about certain people, etc.

But by offering Social Hour, we are not only able to give them time to play & relax outside of the shelter, but we’re also able to learn more about those unknowns & provide that information to potential new families, & ultimately, stopping the cycle of the pup being returned to the shelter

INTRODUCING: PACK WALKS

Pack Walks is a program that provides a safe, non-judgmental environment where pawrents & dogs can not only gain confidence in being around others on-leash, but can also build a stronger relationship between the two.

For many of these dogs, being on-leash around other dogs or humans isn’t always the most fun. By participating in the Pack Walk Program, Pawrents can support & guide their dogs through challenges while building a stronger bond & creating positive experiences in a safe space.

If you’re interested in learning more or participating in a Pack Walk, send us a DM on our socials OR email us at info@companionhomestead.com
